End Girly

KesselsKramer led a two–day workshop at Falmouth University, with the aim of contributing to gender equality. End Girly is a digital campaign that tackles the issue of language: and brings new meaning to the term viral. The basic premise is to intervene with the public. A google search delivers curious corrections. Clicking the corrections installs an extension that replaces the word GIRLY with a randomly selected adjective. This is to illustrate just how meaningless the word should be.

Tweets are doctored as soon as they’re submitted. This infects connected mobile devices. Once on the phone, facebook becomes contaminated. Even texting the word GIRLY becomes an impossibility. Once the user is driven to despair, they are offered the website—and our campaign is explained. They can then sign the pledge, and agree to consider their language from then on.
